LIFE ISN’T SWEET WITHOUT SALT

The “Post” is unique, also when it comes to rest and relaxation.

The modern annexe and the impressive rock face behind it accommodate a truly special wellness and health area. The VORARLBERG SALT CAVE, the biggest artificial salt cave in Europe, has already made a name for itself as a leading attraction well beyond the borders of Vorarlberg.

Around 44 tonnes of Himalayan salt and a sophisticated ventilation system maintain a high concentration of salt in the air – and thus create a climate that is similar to being by the sea. A 45-minute session is therefore equivalent to spending a whole day at the beach. Cave sessions consequently not only promote recovery but also promise relief for a wide range of complaints, such as respiratory or skin ailments.

RELAXATION AND RELIEF

In the VORARLBERG SALT CAVE, a pleasant maritime climate with a high concentration of salt in the air is created at a constant room temperature of 23°C through the controlled injection of saltwater steam and the overall lining of the cave with salt. This not only has an extremely positive effect on the body as a whole but also delivers considerable relief for a range of health complaints, such as asthma, neurodermatitis and allergies.

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

Installed into the cave walls are several graduation towers – recesses fitted with pasturage which is irrigated with saltwater solution – which are used to keep the air constantly damp and salty. Additional saltwater steam is injected into the cave in a controlled manner during the sessions. The air is replaced twice after each session in order to ensure a high air quality.

How long does a session in the salt cave last?

A session in the salt cave usually lasts around 45 minutes. However, the frequency of the single sessions should be adapted to individual needs and the nature of the complaints.

How many people in total can participate in a salt cave session?

Sessions in which the visitors remain clothed are offered for groups of up to 24 people. In order to promote the relaxation effect, comfortable health loungers and blankets are available.

Once the session has begun, we regret that no further people can be allowed to enter the room. This is to allow the people already in the room to enjoy the session without disruptive noises in the background and also to prevent the salty air that has already been injected from escaping.

Do I need special clothing for a visit to the salt cave?

Visitors can enter the salt cave wearing normal clothing. However, it is beneficial for you to wear light-weight, breathable clothing during the session as this allows your skin to better absorb the salty air in the salt cave. You will be given coverings to put over your shoes. This prevents contaminants being brought into the salt cave from outside and preserves the purity of the salt.

What is the composition of the air in the salt cave?

The air mixed with Himalayan salt in the self-contained salt cave contains salt and iodine as well as a range of other minerals that our body absorbs via the skin and the air we breathe. The most important of these minerals are: Calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, zinc, silicon, phosphorous, sulphur, strontium, manganese, copper, fluorine, titanium, etc.

Who can visit the cave?

The salt cave is suitable for every age group - from young children to seniors and pregnant women. In particular, children who suffer from coughing, sneezing, neurodermatitis, sleep disorders or asthma will profit from the beneficial effect of the salty air. Only people who suffer from a hyperactive thyroid or have an iodine allergy should avoid visiting the cave. Please note that a session in the salt cave is never a substitute for professional medical treatment.

How many sessions will make a difference?

This varies widely from person to person and depends not only on the nature and extent of the complaints but also on the personal well-being of the individual. As a rule, 2 to 4 sessions per week are sufficient to notice an improvement in one’s health. However, the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect of the salt helps not only with existing disorders but is also an effective way to boost the immune system and avoid illness.

Salarium

Another highlight is a salt-lined heated relaxation room, which has the same health-promoting climate as the salt cave.

Visitors lie undressed on a bath towel directly in the Himalayan salt granules. Special health resort stays and subscriptions are available for visitors who’d like to make regular use of the salarium. We will be happy to tell you more!
